COURSE TRAINERS

Our course trainers are highly competent and experienced Cambridge approved teacher trainers. They are employed by ILA specifically to manage and deliver the CELTA, DELTA and CELTYL extension courses.

As fully trained professionals, with many years experience of ELT classroom teaching, our trainers are both authoritative and informed.

The training procedure for Cambridge CELTA trainers is extremely rigorous. Not only are the trainers expected to have post-Diploma teaching experience, they are also required to have other, related industry experience.

It is perhaps the personal commitment that ILA teacher trainers bring to the courses they teach however, which make them stand out; a good trainer has to be keen to continue developing themselves as trainers, has to respect their trainees and has to love their job to do it well. Our teacher trainers have chosen their profession because they love teaching; between courses they are regular practising teachers so that they stay in touch with the classroom.

Each course we deliver is considered as a work in progress and we are constantly updating and revising our courses so that we can deliver the very best quality training with the very latest in current teaching methodology.

Robert Duff
BA, CELTA, DELTA, IHCYL, IHFTEB

Teacher Trainer Manager

Hi, my name’s Rob and I’ve been the Teacher Training Manager for ILA since the beginning of 2010. I started teaching in 2001 and my first teaching position was actually here in Vietnam, at International House in Hanoi. I worked as a teacher and manager in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City until 2005 when I returned to the UK to work and study for my Diploma in English Language teaching (DELTA). At the school in Oxford where I earned my DELTA I had the opportunity to teach students from every corner of the world and over the years worked on a very wide range of courses from Cambridge Proficiency and IELTS examination preparation to Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Business Courses on the University Foundation Year Programme. I’ve been training on the CELTA course since January 2008 and have also worked on methodology refresher courses for teachers from mainstream state schools all over Europe. I’m really enjoying being back in Vietnam; especially for the opportunity the ILA CELTA gives me to work with such diverse groups of trainees. In my free time I’m working on picking up my Vietnamese again (which is a slow process) and improving my backhand (which is even slower!) I’m also looking forward to arranging some cross-country motorbike trips, which is something I haven’t done in a while!
