The ILA Community Network (ILACN) was started in 2005 by a small group of teachers and staff who wanted to give something back to the wider community here in Vietnam. They started volunteering at a variety of places around the city in schools, orphanages and shelters but soon realised that more could be achieved by working together and working to a strategic plan. Those people now make up the ILACN committee.
They started to meet to discuss the various places they had volunteered, things they had seen and shared ideas about the best ways to help in a more productive and sustainable manner. They also wanted a way to make their help on-going so that it wasn’t dependent on one person and didn’t stop when an individual left Vietnam.
From here the community network grew as more and more people wanted to donate both time and money to the cause. As it got bigger ILA got involved, providing support, resources and advice to the group, and the community network is now operating across 9 ILA centres and has had involvement from over 1000 people.
