Career Pathway
ILA offers a structured five step career pathway and encourages teachers to progress into senior roles. Many of our management team started their career with ILA as teachers, and have gone on to become Academic Coordinators, Assistant Academic Managers, Academic Managers and Senior Academic Managers.
ILA will support committed and enthusiastic teachers every step of the way.
Teachers
At ILA there are opportunities to teach across a wide range of ages and levels. Our young learners are split into ILA Jumpstart (4 – 6 years old), ILA Juniors (6 – 11 years old), ILA Seniors (11 – 15 years old) and ILA Elite (16 – 18 years old). For each age group there are 9 levels from beginner to advanced. In all young learner classes there is a teaching assistant to help with classroom management and communicating with parents.
Teaching adults can be extremely rewarding as they are generally very motivated and eager students. Adult programmes include general English courses, Exam Preparation programmes (for IELTS and TOEFL), an Overseas Study Preparation Programme, and tailored programmes for corporate clients.
Vietnamese students are a pleasure to teach! They are dedicated and highly motivated with a great sense of humour which makes teaching fun and interactive at all levels and age groups.
Academic Coordinators
Academic Coordinators split their time between teaching and providing support to teachers. This includes inductions, which each teacher receives when starting with ILA, on-going teacher support, help in finding resources and assistance with preparing lessons. Other responsibilities include developing resources and materials, level testing and the opportunity to conduct workshops.
Assistant Academic Managers
Assistant Academic Managers help the Academic Manager in larger training centres with observations, teacher support and teacher development. This training is excellent preparation for those wishing to become the Academic Manager of their own training centre.
Academic Managers
Academic Managers are responsible for teacher management on a day to day basis in a training centre. They facilitate teacher development through observations and feedback, conducting workshops, appraisals and provide support by answering teachers’ questions and resolving issues.
Senior Academic Managers
Senior Academic Managers are part of a small team in Head Office, responsible for all aspects of ELT in all of ILA’s training centres. Their responsibilities include leading the team of Academic Managers, implementing improvement projects, training and support as well as product development.
